Australian and 70s

As its name suggests, the breed has its origins in Australia. In the mid-1970s,  its breeder, Truda Straede, crossed specimens of:

  • Burmese
  • Abyssinians
  • common short

In the beginning, it was called Spotted Mist. But in 1998, the current name was adopted because, as the breed developed, more standards emerged.

Currently, the Australian Mist  is in the process of being recognized by the main feline associations. And it has been gaining popularity, little by little, outside of Oceania.

Physical Appearance of the Race

The kittens of this domestic cat are generally robust, but as they grow they take on the appearance of a normal cat. Also, other physical characteristics of this adorable kitten are:

  • Weight: between three and six kilos (males) and between two and five (females)
  • Body: muscular and strong
  • Coat: short, shiny and silky
  • Head: Rounded and medium in size, with firm chin
  • Eyes: expressive, large, slightly rounded and in different shades of green

  • Ears: Medium, with wide base and rounded tips
  • Feet: Medium length, muscular and strong, with oval claws
  • Tail: Long and tapered towards the tip

This beautiful breed of cat  has a life expectancy of between 15 and 18 years. They are normally in good health, but may develop some urinary tract and eye problems.
